Five Kind Things You Can Do for Your Neighbor
With so many distractions keeping us occupied all the time it can be easy to forget the importance of our community. Living in our bubble filled with television, smartphones, computers, tablets and streaming services is a great way to get information from all around the world, yet it also makes it easier to become disconnected from the people living just next door- your neighbors.
It may not seem like it, but your neighbors are probably the best way to maintain a connection to your immediate community. Having a good relationship with someone who lives right next door to you can be beneficial for everyone involved. Neighbors can band together to change things, such as get an unsightly powerline torn down, or let the local police know if there have been suspicious vehicles in the neighborhood. If there is a home issue, such as a down spout being emptied on your property, it is good to be able to talk to your neighbor about it and get things resolved.
Being able to speak to your neighbor candidly and respectfully is the best way to feel content in your environment. It’s a good feeling to know that you can rely on the person next door to feed your dog if you get caught in traffic or borrow an egg from when you are in a jam. In honor of National World Kindness Day, 911 Restoration wants to remind you of a few ways you can show your neighbor that you care.
Be Sweet
Everyone likes a cookie. Baking something homemade and bringing a basket of goods to your neighbor is a sure-fire way to get on their good side. Taking the time to actually make something really shows that you care. Don’t worry if your cooking skills aren’t completely on point, the effort really is what matters.
Lawn Mowing
If you are out there mowing your own lawn and notice that your neighbor is in need, why not help out a bit? It only takes a little more time to get their yard cleaned up after you finish your own, but the appreciation will last forever.
Just make sure to ask before you start working away, in order to be clear that you are not over-stepping your boundaries.
Lend a Hand
This one may seem like a no-brainer, but if you notice your neighbor bringing in the groceries or other goods from their car, it’s just good manners to offer help. Even if it’s across the street, a quick jog over to help with the bags is something that is sure to get you in good with your neighbors.
Animals Are Neighbors Too
Sometimes you can get caught up at work or stuck in traffic while your furry friend is in need of care. Being able to call on your neighbor to take the dog on a quick walk or feed it dinner can be incredibly helpful.
If you solicit this type of help to your neighbor, it will really boost neighborhood morale. Knowing you live next to someone you can trust to care for your pet is priceless.
Give and You Shall Receive
If you are ever in need of any help yourself and you decide to call upon your neighbor, the best way to go about that is to have an offering in tow. Bringing over fresh cut flowers as you ask if they will collect your mail while you are on vacation will show that you appreciate their help. It will also garner trust and maybe even a friendship in the future.
